Company Description: Brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer founded Widmer Brothers Brewing Company in 1984. For more than 15 years, the Widmer brothers have created deliciously original beers and overseen the entire brewing process from fresh grains to finished beers.
Widmer Brothers Brewing Company brews unique and authentic European and American style beers. After living in Germany and enjoying fine European beers in the 1970s, Kurt Widmer returned to Portland, Oregon, with a mission to create American interpretations of authentic European beer styles. His search for an original beer experience led Kurt back to a brewery in Düsseldorf, where he studied recipes of that famous brewing center. Widmer’s special brewing yeast was obtained from the world-renowned Brewing Research Institute in Weihenstephan, Bavaria. This special yeast has been maintained at Widmer’s brewery for the over 15 years, and is an important part of the Widmer Brothers’ brewing process.
America’s Original Hefeweizen® is an excellent example of the Widmer Brothers’ brewing success. The Brothers pioneered Hefeweizen beer in America in 1986 and America’s Original Hefeweizen® has grown in popularity over the past decade. This golden, cloudy Widmer Brothers beer is kegged and bottled directly from the lagering tank and is not filtered, leaving Widmer Brothers’ special yeast suspended in the beer. Widmer Brothers’ Hefeweizen has been Oregon’s top-selling draught microbrew for over eight years. Its tempting appearance and aroma combined with its robust taste and texture have distinguished America’s Original Hefeweizen® as a Widmer Brothers classic.
Widmer Brothers Brewing Company currently produces a line of five original European and American style beers year-round. These offerings include America’s Original Hefeweizen®, Hop Jack Pale Ale, Sweet Betty Blonde Ale, Widberry™, and Altbier. Seasons and holidays inspired Widmer to be the first brewery to introduce seasonal beers to America—an idea that has spawned such favorites as Sommerbrau and Oktoberfest, returning each year by popular demand. In keeping with the tradition of hand-crafted brewing, the Widmer Brothers continue to develop new and exciting beers.
As the appreciation for high quality, fresh tasting, hand–crafted beer continues to grow, so does the availability of Widmer beers. Ask for Widmer in your favorite establishment today!
