Company Description: Greene King brews all its beers in Bury St Edmunds, where ale has been a feature of life since at least as far back as 1086. But we've taken the traditional art of brewing to new heights, producing what is now the finest range of cask ales in the country. Our beers are as much at home in city centre nightspots as they are in the cosy lounge of the village pub; we've taken the traditional craft of brewing and turned it in to an art form. No other UK brewer is as committed to, or dedicated to, cask ale.
Greene King's beers in all forms - cask, keg, bottle and can - are now exported all over the world. It may surprise you to know, for instance, that in Sweden, dedicated Old Speckled Hen drinkers will willingly pay around £8.00 for a pint of their favourite tipple. And in Singapore, in an English-style pub, customers drink over 2,200 pints of Old Speckled Hen and nearly 1,800 pints of Ruddles each and every week.
The Beers
- Abbot Ale
Abbot Ale is brewed longer to a unique recipe. This makes it the full flavoured, smooth and mature beer it is today.
It has masses of ripe fruit characters, a malty richness and a superb hop balance making it an exceptional ale - it is no wonder that it's popularity continues to grow.
Abbot Ale is brewed with pale crystal and amber malts to give an attractive colour and rich malty tastes.
- IPA
IPA stands for India Pale Ale, a particular type of beer that was brewed for export to ex-patraites
during the days of the Indian Raj. Because hops have a preservative effect on beer, an unusually large quantity of hops were used in the brewing process to ensure beer remained in good condition during the long voyage to India.
- Old Speckled Hen
This rich, strong ale is the drink for every occasion. It's available as a cask ale, 500ml bottles and in distinctive, embossed cans. In the glass, Old Speckled Hen sparkles like rich, golden amber intermingled with warming red tones.
The aroma of Old Speckled Hen is particularly
distinctive - very fruity but with rich, malty undertones.
Old Speckled Hen has a wonderful, warm flavour bursting with body. Malt loaf and toffee flavours combine with a bitterness on the back of the tongue to give a beautiful, balanced sweetness without being cloying.
- Ruddles County
Ruddles County is an all-occasion beer, perfect as a pint after the rugby game or a night out at the pub with family and friends.
Ruddles County is also one of the most popular selling premium ales at the supermarket – so don’t forget to add it to your shopping list next time. It is, after all, a beer from the Real World, so any time that’s good for you is a good time to drink Ruddles County
Ruddles County is famed for its dry, bitter flavour, which comes from using the rare Bramling Cross hops. Many liken the flavour to burnt toffee and caramel which, when combined with the dry bitterness, gives a very pleasing taste. It really is the ultimate bitter-lovers' bitter.
- Ruddles Best
Ruddles Best is a quality, standard ale with award-winning taste and drinkability. In the pub or at home, Ruddles Best is a country ale worth drinking on any occasion.
With bitterness and sweetness perfectly balanced, Ruddles Best is very moreish and has a surprisingly full-bodied consistency. Pale and crystal malted barley is used, together with a special yeast and the rare Bramling Cross hops that give Ruddles beers their distinctive bitterness.
- Ruddles Organic
Ruddles Organic Ale is a perfect blend of organic ingredients and Ruddles' famous traditional brewing. Approved by the Organic Food Federation, it’s a smooth pint that’s easy to drink and is naturally delicious. Look out for Ruddles Organic next time you’re shopping – it’s a great beer to enjoy when relaxing at home.
A slight sweetness balanced by a citrus taste results in a pure and satisfying finish. Organic pale and crystal malts are combined with organic Hallertau hops for that distinctive aroma and flavour.
- Greene King Triumph
This superb, golden cask ale is brewed with four varieties of hops - Goldings, Fuggles, Target and the rare Bramling Cross - to give a wonderful depth of flavour, rounded finish and fruity aroma. It's also late-hopped with all four varieties of hops to boost taste and aroma still further. With an abv of 4.3%, Greene King Triumph is available as a cask ale and in 500ml take-home cans.
- Greene King XX Mild
Greene King XX Mild is a fine, dark, mild ale with a distinctive taste (3% abv) and delicate aroma. It draws its characteristics from a special blend of black and crystal malts to give a burnt, roasted flavour while the delicate hint of hops in the nose comes from the Northdown variety.
- Hen's Tooth
There's only one description for Hen's Tooth - the nearest thing to real ale in a bottle. Its balanced blend of strong, rich flavours (6.5% abv) lead to a satisfyingly smooth, clean finish. The active yeast in the bottle continues to condition and mature the ale through its life, producing not only the wonderful flavours but also a smooth, foamy head.
- Strong Suffolk Vintage Ale
Strong Suffolk Vintage Ale is unique and unrivalled in this country. It's a blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special!
